Lode Runner was created by the legendary Doug E. Lode Runner Online: The Mad Monks' Revenge (sequel to Lode Runner: The Legend Returns, both developed by Presage Software) was released by Sierra for Windows and Mac in 1995. It works with 'Lode Runner: The Legend Returns' and 'Lode Runner On-Line'. Relish in the joy of unboxing vintage software like they did back in. Lode Runner is the classic Apple gold-gathering platformer. This is the original monochrome Mac port from 1984, which still works except that clicking in the main window crashes the game under some OS versions (but you can still play with keyboard control - IJKL to move, UO or SF to dig, D or any other non-playing key to stop).

This mid-'90s sequel to Lode Runner was later enhanced and rereleased as Lode Runner On-Line: The Mad Monks' Revenge.

Still another sequel, the confusingly named Lode Runner 2, took the series into 3D.

The first file above,'lr-tlr_v1.0_images_dc42.sit' (the 5.15MB download) is a StuffIt 5.5 archive of the 4 install disks in Disk Copy 4.2 format. Mount all 4 disk images with Disk Copy 6.3.3 and use the Installer on the first disk to install a clean copy of the original v1.0 release of The Legend Returns, dated 20 Sep 1994. Disks were imaged with Disk Copy 4.2 on a Power Mac 9600 running Mac OS 7.6.1 on 6 Jan 2012.
The second file above,'Lode_Runner-lvl-groups.sit', linked in the second download above, includes fan-made level groups (created by the Mac Garden community), containing original 1984 levels, 'Championship' and 'Revenge Of' levels known from Apple ][ versions of Lode Runner. It works with 'Lode Runner: The Legend Returns' and 'Lode Runner On-Line'.

Files for Mac can be run on all versions of OS X.You need to uncompress the 7z archive using the proper software (please use Keka to avoid problems). If the archive contains a DMG, double click it to mount the disk.After that, drag & drop the game icon into Applications (or another folder, Desktop will be fine too).New versions of MacOS block applications from identified developers.
